Vaping & Juuling in Our Community

Cessation Week: November 18-22

(Papillion, NE) – In the past have you tried to quit smoking, but slipped up? You aren’t alone. Quitting is hard work! In Nebraska, more than half of adult cigarette smokers report having made a quit attempt in the past year. Now is the perfect time to give it another shot, and there’s help available!

The week of November 18-22, Tobacco Education & Advocacy of the Midlands (T.E.A.M), the Nebraska Tobacco Quitline and other organizations across the state are teaming up for Cessation Week. Cessation Week is an entire week focused on increasing Nebraskans’ awareness about the many resources available to help tobacco users successfully quit tobacco for good.

“It is commonly known that tobacco use can lead to nicotine dependence and serious health problems. During Cessation Week, we are focusing on the many resources that exist to help Nebraskans beat the addiction,” Autumn Sky Burns, T.E.A.M. Coordinator said.

During Cessation Week, T.E.A.M. and CHI Health Midlands is offering “Vaping & Juuling in Our Community” on Thursday, November 21st from 6-7:30 PM. A panel of experts will discuss about vaping devices look like; how they work; how they are addicting and what our community can do to protect our children. Free resources and a light buffet dinner included; register at .

The Nebraska Tobacco Quitline is also offering a free two-week supply of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to all qualified callers. Trained quit coaches are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669), and for Spanish services, 1-855-DÉJELO-YA (1-855-335-3569). Estate and Transition Planning Workshop

Ag Land Transition . Estate Planning Workshop 2019

“Retiring or passing the farm to the next generation is difficult to think about and is an admission of your own impending demise,” said Allan Vyhnalek, extension educator in farm succession. “However, it is a necessary step and, with good planning, can be made as painless as possible.”

The workshop will be free, but registration is requested and can be completed by contacting Nebraska Extension in Cass County at 402-267-2205, or in person at the Extension office, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

At the Nov. 20 workshop, Vyhnalek will cover the importance of having a plan, proper family communications and proper family negotiations. The Dec. 4 session will be led by Nick Montague, an attorney with Goosmann Law, and will cover end-of-life documentation, tax considerations at death and tools for estate planning like wills, trusts, LLCs and other business entities. The Dec. 10 workshop will be led by Randy Nesbit, a consultant with Protective Distributors, and Brent Connelly, a financial advisor with Edward Jones. They will cover the use of insurance products, investment strategies, buy/sell agreements and other transition strategies.

“Reactions from past participants can be summarized into one comment: most wished that they had attended this workshop years earlier,” said Vyhnalek. “This program gives a good outline of the process farm and ranch businesses need to take to start or restart that process.”

For program information or assistance, please contact Allan Vyhnalek, extension educator, at 402-472-1771 or For registration questions, please contact Nebraska Extension in Cass County at 402-267-2205. For more information on Extension resources for transition in Nebraska, visit
